Friday 13 April 2012 - having a hoot

In theory, I should be starting my next Open University TMA, but, well as much as reading about code-switching is kind of interesting trying to get what I think about it into an essay of 1000 words is proving difficult!  It may be a case of making a start on it this evening with a G&T to see if that gets the brain cells to get the words to come out via my finger tips, thankfully, the assignments for this course are sent via electronic means so no having to write, at the moment it's easier to type than write because of my arthritic thumb which is possibly caused by at some point having broken my scaphoid bone in my hand which hasn't healed neatly (could have done that donkey's years ago having thought it was a wrist sprain!).

Anyway, enough of that, on the ILWS forum, I checked out a link to make some roses, well, they are lush and all you need is...

Owl punch, 1 1/4" circle punch, 2 3/8" scallop punch, 5 petal flower punch, cardstock, wet glue, scissors, ink pads

Owl punch, 118074 £15.50
1 1/4" circle punch, 119861 £14.25
2 3/8" scallop circle, 118874 £15.50 - available in the Spring mini - ends 30 April.
A4 cardstock real red, 106578 £6.25 (pack 24 sheets)
5 petal flower punch, 119880 £15.50
A4 cardstock old olive, 106576 £6.25 (pack 24 sheets)
red riding hood and always artichoke from the Stampin' Spots Regals, 119716 £18.95

You will also need a wet glue.

First, using the real red cardstock punch out 8 owls, one scallop circle and one circle.  Snip the feet off the owls.  I cut the scallop circle into a spiral (this is going to make the inside flower - I've made spiral flowers a few times) then inked around the edges of the spiral and the owls.

Snip between the head end of the owls and then you are going to fold it in and make your petals - this is where I started to get a bit mucky with inked edges and wet glue!  You can bone fold your petals into shape - like Valita does while waiting for the wet glue to take hold (she has mucky fingers too!)

Next, add a blob of wet glue to the small circle and then arrange your owls (ears on the circle) to make the outside of your rose.  Valita used 5 around the outside then the other three make up the next layer.  Make your spiral flower and pop that in the middle and there you have your rose.

To finish up, cut some petal flowers from the green cardstock, give them some inking and then arrange on your rose.

Finally, you may want to go and wash your hands :)

The video by Valita is great to follow and you can get inky doing this so if you don't like getting inky fingers get your gloves on :)

I have put together a special pack which is valid until 28 April 2012, you can also choose a free pack of paper from the springtime promotion.  You will receive the owl punch, large circle scallop and 5 petal flower along with a pack of real red A4 cardstock for £52.50 including delivery direct to your door.

Just click the button to make your purchase (don't forget to let me have your choice of paper pack).
